Hitty Phoebe Out and About - Part Six - Saturday Night Opera

It appears that Hitty Phoebe has developed quite the ear for the Opera.  Fortunately for her Opera at the Met in New York is broadcast every Saturday on Radio Three.  Yesterday it was Donzietti's L'elisir d'amore  'The Elixor of Love'

Of course once Hitty Phoebe learnt that any discerning Opera listener would have to don pearls, she promptly put in a request for 'Opera Pearls'...and was delighted to be able to wear them last night.

She was completely enthralled by this two act opera  that is one of the most frequently performed of all Donizetti's operas.  It first premiered on 12th May 1832 and between the years of 1838 and 1848 was the most often performed opera in Italy.

Hitty Mischievous Visit - Part Ten - Visiting the Peachtrees Hittys

Hitty Mischievous had an invitation to join Hitty Madge, Hitty Moana and Hitty Mary Jean in visiting the Peachtrees Hittys.

She was in for a few delights - so many things to enchant a Hitty such as her.

Skulls....

What's this?  Potions & Spells?  She wonders.....Just my kind of place!

Hitty Mischievous couldn't quite believe her eyes...

Was THIS THE Hogwarts?

It certainly looked like she had arrived!  But straight into the THIRD year?  Really?

The other girls are completely oblivious to her excitement as they meet and greet each other.

The start chatting....

...when Hitty Mischievous notices a little Hitty sitting down.

Why what is the matter?  Can't you stand up?  She asks.

No not really, replies Hitty Wendy.

Oh I can fix that!  Hitty Mischievous says excitedly at the thought of an opportunity for a spell...

She raises her arms and starts to chant....

Fortunately Hitty Madge realises what is happening and steps in just at the right moment,

But look!  Hitty Mischievous exclaims.

She is standing!  My magic worked!

It turns out that Hitty Mary actually had helped Hitty Wendy to stand up.

So what shall we do?

Let's make some red coral necklaces!  Quite a few of us need one.  Hitty Morag suggests.

The girls sit down while they work out just who needs one.

They set to work, patiently trying to thread their needles, which proved impossible!  In the end it was discovered it was just as easy to simply thread the beads straight onto the nylon.

Hitty Mischievous looks at all the colourful beads...

She sits down in front of the red beads and decides threading them on one by one, sounds too much like hard work and instead thinks she will do it her way....with a spell or two!

Ta da!

Well not quite a red coral necklace Hitty Mischievous - what went wrong?!

She certainly looks a little surprised at the result!

The other girls are all sporting their new necklaces... wait a minute where is Hitty Mary Jean?

Ah that is better there she is, along the back row.

Hitty Mary Jean, Hitty Mary, Hitty Wendy, Hitty Morag and Hitty Cherry are all very pleased with their new necklaces....Hitty Perdita Mischievous is not so sure...but she is pretending it was intentional!

Later on when the girls get home....

Hitty Mary Jean tells the Rose Cottage Hittys about their day out.

She shows us her necklace....

and then she shows us Hitty Mischievous' necklace and explains that was the result of trying to take the easy way out!

But I LIKE it.... Hitty Mischievous claims!

Earth Day and Jane Austen

Hitty Joy reminds us that today is Earth Day.

She suggests that we do some work in the garden to contribute to our little bit of the world.

We check on the wildlife to make sure they are happy and healthy

Plant some seeds...

...and discuss how we can encourage wildlife into the pond which will in turn just help a little bit in contributing to looking after our Earth.

While we were busy outside our person was busy making up the Jane Austen Bonnet kit that JOC sent us last year.

Hitty Joy has the smallest head so she got to model it.

A very fine specimen of a bonnet it is indeed.

Doesn't Hitty Joy look a treat in it, and she seems very happy indeed.

In all its glory.

Cyber Saturday Bag-A-Long

Cyber Saturday on a Sunday - I made this lovely little book bag for Hitty Patience who enjoys going to the library.

Fun little project, I can see more of the Hitty Girls at Rose Cottage wanting one of these!

Off she goes.

Making a Hitty Bench - Part Two

My bench has been finished and it blends in nicely with the other furniture.  Perhaps a tad light but I'm sure that doesn't really matter.  My person was a bit upset that the new glue she used shows through the colour washed, but I have assured her I don't mind, it just adds to the character of the bench, and it is perfectly okay for a first attempt.  I have been delighting in having a nothing read of Hitty Robertson's 10th Anniversary book and have just heard that Hitty Moana is going to bring me a cup of tea.  Isn't that nice of her?

Hitty Ethel has been busy at the sewing machine, but won't let on what she has been making.

Making a Hitty Bench - Part One

Hitty Patience asked for a bench to add to their furniture - after all Hitty MUST have a bench!

Fortunately I had found a tutorial while browsing the Hitty Girls site.  My son had some balsa wood from a never completed project, all I had to do was to cycle down the road to get a stanley knife.

Hitty Patience wanders over to check out the almost finished bench.

She gives it a good inspection.

Tries it out for size...

"Yes I think this will do nicely", she says.  "All it needs now is staining the same colour as our other furniture please."

Fortunately I had some dark green wash stain.

Looks a bit dark here, but I am sure it will lighten up once it is dry.

In which I gain a chair and some under clothes

The last couple of days my person has been busy acting in rather an unusual way taking apart and glueing together clothes pegs.  Goodness knows what she was up to.  It took me some time to work out what she was making and was surprised to see a couple of chairs take form out of what looked like a pile of useless clothes pegs.  Aparrently she was inspired after seeing something similar in a charity shop.  The first was a  rocking chair  which was rather too larger for me really and Percival has taken possession of it as seen here.

How ever the armchair was the perfect size for me.

Oh yes, this chair will do indeed.

While my person was busy making a chair, I thought I had better get busy sewing as I needed some underwear to protect my modesty.

I made myself a camisole, pantiloons...

and a petticoat/half slip.  Much better!

The pantaloons give a cheeky peek out from the hem of my dress and keep my legs warm on those cooler days.
