The Making of Hitty Ten

It has been some time since our person worked on carving a Hitty... and one has been a 'WIP' for a very long time.  The other day we were quite excited to see this WIP had been pulled out of the box... does this mean that another Hitty might be joining us soon?

This was the stage 'she' was left at...it seems a grain line (or seam) has appeared, especially down the face which is a bit of a shame.

Anyway today was dry enough outside to work on her, even if a little chilly!  Her arm shoulders ended up a bit thin...it is all too easy to get a bit carried away with shaving wood off!  So now the rest of the arms and hands will have to be thinned down a bit...not such an easy task.

Looking at her in profile.

Our person finds the faces very hard to do indeed... just as the lips were forming, a chunk of them split off!  So frustrating!  But I think she is getting there.  Trouble is our person's arm hurts and tingles now, so that was  probably why she put this new Hitty aside in the first place!

This Hitty will be the 10th Hitty our person will have carved, if she ever gets her finished.  She will stay here with us, as all the others apart from Hitty Madge who was Number 1, have left home to live elsewhere.

Carving Hitty 8 and 9

I first posted about Hitty 8 here.  I put her away for a while to 'think' about.

I started Hitty 9 a few days ago and have been working on her a little at a time to save my arm and hand from getting too much pain.  This is working out much better for me, although it does take longer.  But I am enjoying this process to see a little more emerge each time.

Hitty 9 blanks.

Starting work

A profile forming.

Limbs...

Hitty 9 and Hitty 8 side by side

I have done a little more work on Hitty 8 as well - trying to round out her face a little more and adding her features.

They are getting there.  More work was done on Hitty 9's limbs today.

They are starting to show their characters.

Carving Hitty 8

I've been working on Hitty 8 today...  she was partly done, and I have been trying to smooth her out and thin her down a bit - I think I may have over slimmed her hips!

I quite like her profile.

Over an hour later, my arm still doesn't feel 'right' so think I may have over done it a bit!

Hitty May (#7) Ready for a new home.

I have just finished my seventh carved Hitty and she is looking for adventures and a home.

She is a contemplative soul with a kind heart and ready to help anyone.

She will come with her pretty summer dress and bloomers
and of course her red bead necklace.

Introducing Hitty Number Five

Now we know that Hitty Winifred Octavius arrived safely in her new home we can introduce Hitty Five - who is still with-holding her name from us....  She started out as the fourth Hitty to be carved, but was actually the fifth finished.

Hitty Five - yet to be named.

She wanted an outfit like her sister Hitty Winifred Octavius

We had to use what materials we had to hand to make their dresses and didn't have enough black for the inside brim of her hat.  There are no shops local to us that stock fabrics, felt and trimmings unfortunately, but in the true spirit of  'Make Do' that is what we did.

So tell us your name little one?

Carve a Hitty & Dress as a Witch Swap - Meet Hitty Winifred Octavius.

Although she started out as our person's fifth Hitty to begin carving, she is actually the fourth to be finished - nothing like a deadline to help encourage progress!   Meet Hitty Winifred Octavius.  She likes to think she is a bit of a witch, but in reality she is simply a Hitty in an outfit that perhaps with the stretch of your imagination resembles that of a witch.  Her constant companion is Octus her faithful spider.  She is also rather proud of her purple and green stockings!

Hitty Winifred was carved for the Hitty Witch Swap on Hitty Girls. She is my first Hitty to Swap (aka give away)  so it was bit of a wrench to send her on her way.  We  just hope that our person's swap partner likes her.

We have heard from Leonarda, my swap partner, that Hitty Winifred arrived in a record five days!  We are sure she must have used some of her magic along the way.

Next up some photos of the 'backwards' progress.....

Hitty Six Finished.

Our person has been busy carving Hittys over the last couple of weeks.  Number four ended up being the fifth carving finished and a special Hitty became number four as she was finished first.   Hitty four can't be shown yet as she is on her way to the USA as part of the Hitty Girls 'Carve a Hitty and dress as a Witch Swap'

Hitty Five, is a bit shy....actually she can't be shown yet as she is wearing a similar outfit to that of Hitty Four who is off to the USA.

But Hitty Six, is quite happy  to show her progress and finished photos.

Some more shaping in the face needed.

But she is getting there.

Taking a stroll

Rounded out the head a bit more.

In the buff!

She wanted blue and red striped stockings.

She wanted to wear a 'witches' cape and hat, so I made her one.  Her bloomers are made from the same fabric as her dress.

She seems to be looking a little worried in this photo.

Showing off her dress.

Her bloomers!

Hitty Six now has a name as well....she is Hitty Morag.
