The Yellow Hat Society Meeting: Sunday 5th June 2016

We held our meeting of the Rose Cottage Yellow Hat Society and much was discussed.

We started with the minutes from our last meeting which was held, goodness just over two years ago!  A lot has happened since then... and we briefly reflect with sadness, but also some happy memories,  the loss of our other main UK Hitty Girls member, Caro and the Wren Cottage Dolls who were a large part of our discussion at the last meeting when we were arranging a meet up.

We moved on to the most important business which was to reinstate the Yellow Hat Society on Hitty Girls.  We have many keen members, both new and old who wish to keep it going.

Hitty Granny Estelle acted as our secretary to take down the minutes.

New membership certificates need to be designed and I nominated Hitty Madge as she is our resident artist.  

Hitty Mary Jean seconded the nomination and also added she would be keen to help as she is 'up with technology' as she put it.

It was suggested that to cut down on postage costs that these new membership certificates be emailed to new members to be printed out - this is a suggestion we will put to the Hitty Girls.

There is to be an Annual General Meeting on the Anniversary of the Hitty Girls Yahoo Group at the end of July.

As can be seen many of our members still do no have hats - this too must be remedied and is to be put on our urgent 'To Do' list.  Hitty Ethel has agreed to get on with this.  Hitty Scary's attention seemed to be wandering, so we suggested she help Hitty Ethel with this task as nine more hats are needed, and perhaps some better designs than our current yellow 'crowns'.  

Hitty Carol Faith said she could perhaps try crocheting some hats with the pattern supplied by Hitty Girls.

It was agreed we will put these few ideas to the Hitty Girls group and regroup with any further ideas and discussions as necessary.  In the meantime we need to get cracking on with the membership certificate.

At the conclusion of business we adjourn to the Rose Cottage Tearooms to partake in tea and cake! 

Reinstating the Yellow Hat Society.

The Yellow Hat Society needs reinstating so I (Hitty Patience) has decided that we need to get the ball rolling by hosting a Yellow Hat Society meeting at Rose Cottage.

I start by letting all the girls know that we will be holding a meeting tomorrow (Sunday 5th June) to plan what we need to do to get it up and running again.

There will be lots to do, so I need everyone to attend.

There are quite a few new girls here at Rose Cottage since our last meeting which was my goodness two years ago!  (Posts can be read here and here)  So much has happened since then. 

Hitty Joyful has offered the use of the tearoom if required.  She is happy to provide refreshments.

The first official United States meeting of the Yellow Hat Society took place at Camp Wanna Do in Richmond, VA on February 13, 2010 and was presided on by Ambassador from Denmark by way of her US birth, Hitty Nanny Hope, who went on to live elsewhere (current whereabouts unknown).  The link to the  online meeting report can be found  here.

Hitty Patience Reports:

So it has been a month since the Hittys at Rose Cottage held theirYellow Hat Meeting and AGM.  Due to all the other goings on in the cottage it has taken me longer to type up these notes than I had anticipated.  

You may remember that on the agenda were the following items to discuss:

Item 1: Hats

Item 2: Tea Room

Item 3: UK Hittys

Item 4: AOB which amounted to discussing items on last year’s list:

Finish round rug

Make some Pif gifts

Make at least one item per month

Make matching dresses and yellow hats for events and meetings.

The following was discussed and agreed.

Item No. 1:  Hats.  It was agreed that it was unnecessary to have matching dresses due to the work involved, but that more yellow hats were needed, and perhaps ones of a better standard than the ‘felt crowns’.

 

Item No. 2:  Tea Room.  Hitty Joyful is in charge of the new Hitty Tea Rooms and is working with the help of some of thee other girls to set up a Tea Room.  Many supplies and items will be needed, so this is a long term project for the girls.  A name is also to be thought up and put to vote.

Item No. 3: UK Hitty Girls.  It was agreed that a UK Contingent of Hitty Girls would be established with founder members being the RCH (Rose Cottage Hittys) and the WCD (Wren Cottage Dolls) with an invitation going out to the ‘Not-Quite-Hitty Girls' whom our girls believe one is at least a Hitty and the other very well nearly...good enough.  Invitation to be sent….

The aims of this society are to make visitors from other countries feel welcome and to offer friendship. 

We aim to meet up once every three months as appropriate and possible depending on situations and circumstances. 

This has already got off to a good start with the Inaugural Meeting held in Brighton on 21^st May 2014 with the Rose Cottage Hittys and the Wren Cottage Dolls in attendance along with guests from the USA – the Wizzy Hittys.

Item 4:  AOB.  Referring to the list from last year, we are pleased to announce that since our meeting that the round rug has been completed and is in situ in our living room.

A couple of PIF gifts have been made and sent off to a couple of ladies that we have noticed have been very generous on the HittyGirls group of late.

Quite a few items have been made in the last month, so we feel confident that we will be able to maintain making at least one item per month.

Matching dresses and hats.  As discussed in Item No. 1: Hats... it was decided that matching dresses were not required.

A couple of swaps have been taken part in and dresses were made as gifts for the UK Hitty Meet Up.

The Urgent Meeting of the Yellow Hat Society Concludes...

Well it seems like the meeting was rather successful and finished with tea, sandwiches and of course the all too important cake.

The sandwiches were soon demolished as the meeting did indeed go on for quite a long time as there was much to be discussed.

Cakes were also enjoyed.

The minutes are currently being typed up by myself, with the assistance of Hitty Madge 

Once typed up I will be able to distribute the minutes and those aims we wish to achieve in the next few weeks, months and over the whole year.

Later in the afternoon, Hitty Madge was itching to get outside for a walk in the countryside.

It was a very fine afternoon and perfect walking weather.

She delighted in the bluebells

and forget me nots.

Other important news in Rose Cottage is the arrival of a rather nice new piece of furniture that our person found in a local CS (charity shop...but hey, who are we to complain?!)  

Hitty Carol Faith, always a bit of diva, pleads faintness to try it out for size.

Becassine, always so caring, checks her out and decides that really it is enough of the dramatics and asks her to get up to let the 'new girl' take a seat.

New Girl?  Yes there is a new girl!  She has been await for a body for rather a long time, languishing as a 'shoulder head'.  Finally our person set to work and made her a body, of which she is delighted. 

'Please take a seat'  Hitty Carol Faith says to Miss Shoulder Head & Body.

Of course the new girl is very quiet...she is still awaiting a body paint and of course hair and features...until then it appears she will remain silent.  Fortunately one of the girls lent her a dress to wear to protect her modesty as really the next picture is rather revealing, and one that we deem is really unnecessary, but sometimes it seems that these 'in the flesh' photos have to be displayed...we haven't quite worked out why yet!

Lastly Hitty Joyful was delighted to be able to spend a few precious minutes in her Tea Room...

She arranged their precious collection of teapots.

...and decided that more were needed!

An Urgent Meeting of the Yellow Hat Society.

Upon hearing news that there are going to be overseas Hittys coming to our fair shores, the Hitty girls called an urgent meeting of the Yellow Hat Society.  They have been rather neglectful of the society, their last meeting, the AGM held well over a year ago.  In fact they are rather ashamed to say they have only ever had two meetings, now this really is not good enough.

They read through the minutes of the last meeting and realise that they have not done too well on their list...in their defence it was decided that last year just wasn't the right time for their person to assist due to health problems, but now they feel they might be able to achieve some of their aims.

They had hoped to:

Make at least one item per month

Make some PIF gifts

Finish their round rug

Make matching dresses and yellow hats for events and meetings.  

Of which none were really achieved.  They were made even more aware of this when they realised that they were still short on rather a few hats and their make shift 'yellow felt crowns' were still in circulation.  They were also rather ashamed that they hadn't made an PIFs either, something that really does need remedying.

They check through their agenda for today's meeting...although there are only four items on the list, they are going to take much discussion.

As noted, hats are indeed a priority.

Discussions on how the tea room is progressing is of course a current topic of discussion among the whole Hitty family at the moment.

One of the most important items to discuss though is setting up a UK Hitty Contingent.  Although they know of one other Hitty family living in England at the moment, this of course being very good news, as for a long time they felt they were perhaps the only ones, although there is of course another family who sadly think of themselves as the 'Not Quite Hitty's' due to some unfortunate gossip, however they are keen to reassure them that they are actually Hitty girls and are welcome any time within the Hitty community.  Anyway you can see that it is easy for them to digress...

So there being at least TWO other Hitty families in the UK it has been thought a GOOD IDEA to form a group (or committee), that will of course be welcoming to any newcomers and of course more importantly, which is what gave the RCH (Rose Cottage Hittys) and the WCD (Wren Cottage Dolls) the idea, meeting up with any overseas visitors  who come here.  What could be more exciting than to have visitors from other countries and of course making them feel welcome?

Rose Cottage Hittys Yellow Hat Society AGM

The Hittys at Rose Cottage held their AGM for the Yellow Hat Society today, a day early as they were uncertain as to whether or not it would be possible to do so on Sunday.

They had rather a long agenda to get through, but the first item on the list was decided unanimously that Hitty Robertson should be this years Honorary Member. 

Hitty Ethel didn't have time to make them all beautiful hats like the chairperson Hitty Patience, so this year they were all given yellow felt crown hats...which of course made them feel very important indeed.

Hitty Patience had to keep Hitty Carol Faith focussed as she tended to drift off in a daydream.

Hitty Ethel, said she hopes to make them some 'proper' hats and all the same outfits throughout the year especially for the YHS events and meetings.  They had trouble deciding which colour though and in the end it was agreed that the dresses would be made with whichever fabric they had the most of!

They decided that they would like to do some PIFs this year as a thank you to all who have made them feel welcome.  Other agenda items were extending their wardrobe...who would have guessed that one?!  They are also hoping that they may have some improvements made to their home...beds were one of the items suggested.

After much discussion it was decided that:

They would like to make at least one item per month...

They also discussed possible future activities, but know their person isn't ready to commit to too much straight away until she finds her motivation which seems to have taken a wander.

Of course the meeting was finished off with copious cups of tea, savouries and cakes.

Hitty Patience is delighted that the Hittys at Rose Cottage have been admitted into the Yellow Hat Society.

The first hat arrived today and Hitty Patience being the first Hitty to arrive at Rose Cottage has been nominated as the one to wear it.  She gets the meeting room ready to explain all about the Yellow Hat Society to the other Hitty Girls.

Later on when the all arrive she explains what is involved and also explains that they will all need to make a yellow hat to wear when attending the meetings.

"Can't I wear my little Blue Hat with the pretty red flower, that I am wearing now?" Hitty Joy asks.

"I'm afraid not Hitty Joy.  The only condition of being a membership is that Hittys should be wearing yellow hats at meetings and other gatherings, be they private or public when representing the society"  Hitty Patience explains.

"Now how many hats do we need?"  Hitty Patience asks. "Would you all like to make your own, or does someone want to volunteer to make them all?

"We need five hats". Granny Hitty Estelle replies.  "However, I do think we should make a couple of extra hats as I have heard that Hitty Ethel's cousin is coming to stay and I understand that our person might be making another one to join our family."

"I would be happy to make them"  Hitty Ethel tells the others.  "I do tend to do most of the sewing and knitting around here, so would be happy to make them"

"That would be lovely of you Hitty Ethel"  Hitty Patience thanks her.  "But please if you need a hand, don't forget to ask the others".
