New Dress, Apron, Shawl and Hat

Unfortunately there wasn't enough of the blue fabric to make a dress, although there was enough to make an apron...which of course led to finding another print for the reverse side.  Hittys at Rose Cottage do like their reversible aprons!  That then led to finding some more fabric with which to make a dress that could be worn underneath the apron.   Once that was done, it just seemed natural to sit and knit a shawl and hat to go with the new outfit to add some variety.

New shawl and hat, certainly needed today!

So after five years of wearing the same outfit, in just a week her wardrobe more than doubled!

Hitty Morag chooses some fabrics.

It can be surprising when you take a photo...what looked 'okay' in dull light, looks quite different in the photo.  Hitty Morag was choosing some fabric for a new dress and at first thought the above colours would go with her new shawl, but she realised getting them together she was quite clearly mistaken.

She went back to find some more and likes this blue print with the pink flowers that seem to tie in with her shawl nicely.  The question is, will there be enough to make her a new dress?  She hopes so!

Hitty Morag's New Shawl

Hitty Morag is getting a few items to build up her meagre wardrobe.  A new shawl was knitted to keep her warm, and she is very pleased with it and couldn't wait to go outside to try it out.

She shows the front.

She is also wearing her new reversible apron.

Welcome Home Hitty Morag

Hitty Madge was delighted to welcome back home Hitty Morag who had been living with her person's friend for the last few years.  Hitty Madge didn't have any of her hand carved sisters living at Rose Cottage as they had all (Eight of them!) gone to live with other people.

Hitty Morag was the sixth Hitty our person carved back in October 2014.
It is lovely to have her back.

The Making of Hitty Ten

It has been some time since our person worked on carving a Hitty... and one has been a 'WIP' for a very long time.  The other day we were quite excited to see this WIP had been pulled out of the box... does this mean that another Hitty might be joining us soon?

This was the stage 'she' was left at...it seems a grain line (or seam) has appeared, especially down the face which is a bit of a shame.

Anyway today was dry enough outside to work on her, even if a little chilly!  Her arm shoulders ended up a bit thin...it is all too easy to get a bit carried away with shaving wood off!  So now the rest of the arms and hands will have to be thinned down a bit...not such an easy task.

Looking at her in profile.

Our person finds the faces very hard to do indeed... just as the lips were forming, a chunk of them split off!  So frustrating!  But I think she is getting there.  Trouble is our person's arm hurts and tingles now, so that was  probably why she put this new Hitty aside in the first place!

This Hitty will be the 10th Hitty our person will have carved, if she ever gets her finished.  She will stay here with us, as all the others apart from Hitty Madge who was Number 1, have left home to live elsewhere.

Swaps and Crafts

It has been pretty quiet at Rose Cottage for the Hittys over the last few months as they have had to go into 'hibernation' and all is packed up.  Just Hitty Madge is out at the moment.  She has managed to join in a couple of activities and swaps recently though and was delighted to receive in the post the other day the recipe cards and box to make up.  The recipe box was designed by the talented Wizzy who also produced a fabulous tutorial to show us how to make it.  Such fun!

She was thrilled with this - what a fun swap.  Of course a new apron has been requested which she is hoping will be made this weekend. We will see....

There has also been some book making going on.

The Hitty Girls are doing a read along and challenge of 'The Fairy Doll' and other stories.  This book was designed by Wizzy and a very helpful tutorial was made to show how to fold the book and make it.

Hitty Madge delighted in sitting down yesterday afternoon for a good read of one of her favourite books.
