Hitty Madge visits Wrest Park

Hitty Madge had a delightful day out on Friday at Wrest Park in Bedfordshire.

The day was wonderful and she enjoyed wandering around the beautiful gardens.

She visited and paid her respects at the Pet Cemetery.

She admired the lead statue of Columbine

Enjoyed the gorgeous flowers.

Marvelled at the Bath house folly built in 1770.

Was stunned by the vastness of the library

Dreamed about living in such a wonderful mansion house.

Both front and back were as equally impressive.

Loved the French Garden

Thought the Chinese Bridge was fabulous

As was the Chinese Temple

These were created between 1758 and 1761 by Jemima, Marchioness de Grey as part of a tableau imitating the scene found on Chinese Willow plates.  This Chinese style was very popular in England at the time.

Explored the Pavilion

View of the Pavilion from the house.

Imagined the games of bowls held in the past in front of the Bowling Green House.

Could almost smell the oranges once grown in the Orangery.
